It is never a good idea to go online without an antivirus program that protects your system against known viruses or malware. The problem with these applications is that when they detect something, you can never know if it is a legitimate threat or a false positive. If you encounter such a situation and you need to double check if the file is really dangerous, System Security Guard will help you. It scans your running processes and it lets you know which ones are safe or not. Furthermore, you can access an online database, with information about any file, so you can see for yourself if an item is safe or a threat to your system.

The application can be very helpful and the best part is that it's freeware. Another piece of good news is the fact that System Security Guard will not conflict with any antivirus program, so you can install it safely on most Windows operating system and the process will not take too long.

Since its update to the 3.0 version, System Security Guard is more comfortable to use. The interface is divided into multiple sections, where you can see the status of your system, commence a security check, access a history of scanned items and perform basic configurations. The Security Check page contains a single button for starting a security scan. When you start the process, System Security Guard will enumerate processes and analyze all related files. When it is done, it will create a report with all the scanned files, their ratings (safe, unknown, suspicious or threat), occurrence and other statistics.

The results can be accessed on the developer's web page by clicking a hyperlink on the software's interface (personal data will not be included). Alternatively, you may access the History page, to view a similar report, where you can filter the information. The software lets you access web pages with information about specific files. This way you can make sure that a file is legitimate and not malware.

While running, System Security Guard will scan your processes at all times, using an online database. It will warn you immediately if it detects new processes or potentially dangerous files. Overall statistics can be viewed on the Status page, where the program will let you know how many files were scanned and how many of them are safe, unknown, suspicious or threats. System Security Guard will also inform you if an antivirus program is installed or not, if you need to update the operating system and if the malware scanner is running in the background.

Pros

System Security Guard offers a second opinion when your antivirus program detects something suspicious. It notifies you what files are safe or not and it lets you access a rich online database, where you can find information about any file. The software is very easy to use and it is free.

Cons

It is not possible to configure the software's behavior regarding notifications. With System Security Guard's simple, but effective features, you can identify safe or dangerous processes fast and without any effort.
